Harry Potter and the Ties that Bind, Chapter 1

Immortal Sailor Cosmos: And Harry hasn't thought to ask Dumbldore who has been at Hogwarts for ages who Riddle is? Or Flmel who is 600 years old and might know where to look if he doesn't have his answers, because why now? (Think Harry! THINK! Use that brain you are so proud of!)

Answer: I think you're forgetting that Harry isn't perfect. Intelligence means little when you're an emotional child whose friend just died. Harry isn't thinking clearly. You've probably noticed from reading this chapter, but he's actually slipping back into the darkness he'd been in during his childhood before meeting Lisa and Master Wei. He's not really capable of logical thinking right now.

themaximus: Sorry for ask about this, but when Selene will be back?
When Selene will appear again in the story?
Please dude, make she be back soon.

Answer: Selene will not show up during book 3, I'm sorry to say. There's just no place for her right now. She does show up during book 4, however, so you have that to look forward to.

BiomassDenial: Hey,

Loving your work. I powered through your first two HP fanfics in about 24 hours with minimal sleep to be heard of. Can't wait till you start running with this third one.

I thought it was a brave move killing Hermione and it seems to be paying off (as bad as writing that makes me feel). I got scared for a second that Harry was going to be trying to bring her back to life when his bit in this chapter started up but it seems like he is just out for some gold old fashioned revenge.

Not sure what your plans are but I hope you don't let him spend too long outside of school being angsty. It always strikes me as weird reading fanfics which aren't set at least partially at Hogwarts. I'm guessing it will be up to the girls to "cheer" him back up.

I was disappointed that Harry didn't walk into Dumbledore office carrying the basilisks head in one hand whilst stabbing Malfoy with the sword of Gryffindor but a man can't have everything he wants :P

Cheers,
Biomass

Answer: I'm glad you're enjoying my stories. And thank you for saying so. I know that killing off a major character is a bold move, and not something that everyone will agree with, but it was something I had planned for ever since I first started writing. I know that some people probably won't approve, but that's life, I guess.

In answer to your last comment, Harry doesn't even know that Malfoy was responsible for the Basilisk being released. Neither he nor Dumbledore are aware of Malfoy's involvement. In my story, Lucius Malfoy is a much more cunning and dangerous opponent, which makes sense, as my story isn't a child's book where preteen brats can go toe-to-toe with adults and come out on top. At least not all the time. ;)

anonymousCould you have harry resurrect Hermione,at least by the end of this can have him use some sort of ancient artifact or make some sort of deal with harry has to get all three deathly hallows for death before coming to age.

answer: No. There will be no resurrecting of the dead. Anyone who dies in my story will stay dead. That's how this story will work. Besides, there are NO Deathly Hallows in this story. I absolutely despised that cop out plot device when Rowling used it. I'm not gonna use it here.

Luna's Meow: I have to commend you on this. You have made a rather excellent series. You make harry very overpowered, and utterly charming, etc. But it is balanced out by him not really understanding people, girls especially thus making him not into the typical perfect self-insert character. I usually only take time to point out flaws, but other than the few I pointed out in my recent reviews of the last two stories, there weren't many outside of tolerable their and there mixups and the like. I do hope you read those reviews to the previous stories, especially as the last one was very important to possible future events regarding harry's animagus form. If not, simple google gryphon and chimera. Read the wiki, and look at the google image results and you should get the point.

The only thing I have left to say is that I wish you had put the same quality into you Naruto story that I reviewed. You are one of the few actual good writers here. I wish my writing for my own Harry Potter story was as good as the writing in this series. Unfortunately you alloed bashing to destroy the beginning of that one. I'm glad that I decided to stil check this series out regardless however. I would have missed a rare gem otherwise.

Answer: I am actually well-aware of the difference between a griffin and a chimera. The snake head on Harry's animagus form is not a natural part of his form. I won't tell you anything else. You should be able to figure out what that means, and the reason for the snake tail will become even more obvious in this book.

Guest: Good chapter mate:) I just don't like how angst it is though...I get hermione died aand all, but really, that's too much. Also how come Daphne hasn't been mentioned yet? Shouldn't she be among Harry's inner circle of friends?

Answer: Oh? So you're saying that if you were twelve years old and your friend died, you wouldn't feel awful about it and get really depressed? Either you're really strong mentally or you're really cold-hearted. Harry, despite his attempts at making it seem like he doesn't care, really does care about his friends. While this is a mostly OC Harry, parts of the original Harry Potter are still inside of him. If you'll recall, Harry Potter in Rowling's story was a brooding little bastard, and he never lost any of his friends until Sirius died. This Harry just lost Hermione Granger at the age of twelve. His regression into the dark side that he keeps locked away is a natural consequence of what happened.

Guest(2): Well I went on a binge the last couple days reading your stories and I believe you are overall one of the best writers I have read of all time professionally or in fan fiction. Interested in Harry's new attitude but also slightly disturbed. Hermonie and Harry were friends but the amount of grief seems disproportional to the relationship they shared. Disappointed in Harry for just running away especially when his friends specifically Daphne need his help. As far as I can tell Harry has relapsed and he's going to need help getting out of this one. Well hanging on for your next review and I hope to see your stories in the future recognized for the works of art they are.

Answer: Harry is dealing with more than just grief. I'm not going into great detail, but the loss of Hermione isn't the only issue he's dealing with right now. It's one of them, and it's admittedly a large one, but he has two other problems that exacerbate Hermione's death.

Some Dude: 1. Why is Harry supposedly ten years old? Is that a mistake
your part? Or is that you insinuating that Skeeter is a bad
reporter?

2. Why was nobody questioning Daphne's absence from
the party?

3. Is Harry missing going to be the spark that has Sirius
break out of Azkaban?

Answer: 1. Harry is not ten. That was just Rita Skeeter being Rita Skeeter. If you'll recall from the original Harry Potter, Rita had a really bad tendency of getting simple facts like age and name wrong in her articles.

2. That's explained in chapter 2.

3. Perhaps, but perhaps not. You'll have to read and find out.

HP-DG-SB-NR-AG-TD-KB-RR-AJ: Ok, first up, the story, so far, this seems promising, but I can't say much more than that till I read more. My only question is, is there a prequel to this story or is this one the start? Your writing style is pretty great, so I'll be checking out other Harry Potter stories you've got.

As for your book that you mention in your note, I went to check out the link in your profile and checked out the description for it. It did seem interesting, and I'm not quite sure what Ecchi means, as I'm not familiar with the term. I read manga, but its specific ones tied to animes I watch. Yours did look interesting though, so I'll keep it in mind for the future perhaps. Good luck with it though.

HP-DG-SB

Answer: This is actually the third book in a series. I'm basically redoing the entire HP series. This is book 3, Gift of Memories is book 1, and Heir of Slytherin is book 2.

And Ecchi basically means fanservice. Think of all those times in anime and manga where you saw a panty shot or some girl randomly found their clothes getting ripped off, and you've an approximation of what Ecchi means. For further information, watch anime like Highschool DxD and High School of the Dead. Those two anime are filled with ecchi.

Aetemus: I see you've updated the title there... melodramatic much?

Also, I'm amazed that HP has apparently not even tried to contact the Flamels. With their centuries of knowledge, they might at least have *heard* of something similar to the diary, even though they themselves may not possess any expertise in such Dark magic. For someone starting a search from scratch, even a small hint would be invaluable.

But nope, you just had to have to HP attempt everything on his own - with his woefully poor knowledge of actual Dark magic - to add more drama than necessary. Obviously, after spending a summer all on his own, he'll be back to his old sociopathic ways when he returns.

Meh, at least this time dear Drakie-poo will suffer more than just a mild electrocution. That's the only silver lining I can see.

Answer: I'm a very melodramatic person, in case you haven't noticed.

I feel like you're being sarcastic and rude with your comments. Despite that, I'll answer you. Harry Potter is twelve years old and one of his friends just died. I don't care how intelligent someone is, a child whose friend died isn't going to think rationally regardless of intelligence. Harry's got a shit-ton of baggage that I haven't introduced yet, and most of it will be coming to light in this book.

tsune: Question. Why is time turner not used? I'm probably fine if his not introduced to it but his been using it to train so why not used it to saved Hermione?

Answer: Because Harry doesn't have a time turner. The time turner he used in book 2 was the Flamels, not his. When his training with Nicholas ended, he returned the time turner to his teacher.

ISWTMTH22: It is great to see this story back and continuing. the only issue that i have with this story/series is the amount of time that is given to the side characters, there side characters. Now don't get me wrong a little side development is nice, however not what I read this story for. I read this story for Harry and what he is doing. for example I will use book 6 of cannon: i don't really care what Hermione and Ron were doing when Harry was in the cave with Dumbledore. I think that this is a problem because if you insist on giving every character equal time you are going to be hard pressed to continue the story. Which then lead to abandoned works which I HATE.

Answer: Side characters? I'm sorry, but none of the people I've focused on are side characters. Susan Bones becomes a major character later on, which is why I'm developing her now. I don't add anything in my stories that isn't important. And it should be obvious why Susan Bones and Harry's other friends are getting development. I didn't have Harry befriend them just so they could be relegated to lap dogs, stooges and background characters. If that was the only purpose I had for Harry befriending them, then I would have never bothered.

Outbreak Company

Outbreak Company is an anime that was... surprisingly pleasant. To be perfectly honest, when I first started watching this anime, I thought it would be like every other romantic harem comedy anime that I've seen, but it was actually an unusually refreshing anime to watch.

Stylistically speaking, the anime doesn't offer that much. The art style is rather plain, and there's nothing about it that really stands out, which is why I had originally suspected this would be just your standard harem comedy type anime, especially when I read the premise and learned that it was about a teenager who is sent to another world, a fantasy world parallel to our own, in order to spread Otaku culture. It just had all the makings of your stereotypical harem romance. I was actually very surprised by the anime once I got past the first two introduction episodes. Contrary to its initial appearance, this is more than just your standard harem romance. It's actually got a surprising amount of depth. The first thing

The first issue that comes up in this anime is racial discrimination. Basically, humans are at the top of the food chain, and dwarves and elves have to work their way up. Half-elves like one of the main heroines are hated by both races because of their half-breed status and are treated like slaves... or maids. This is one of the first issues that we run into in this anime, and it does a surprisingly good job of dealing with it in a way that is both funny and serious.

The comedy is something that I find myself still debating on with this anime. While some instances made me laugh, some of the jokes they presented just fell kind of flat. There were a number of instances where I just feel like they tried too hard to be funny, and instead ended up with this awkward moment where I was left scratching my head and wondering if what just happened was supposed to be a joke. This anime also has a lot of cliche's, however, it also knowingly steps in those cliche's by breaking the fourth wall, so while those moments weren't "laugh out loud" funny, I still ended up at least getting a few chuckles.

The characters themselves are all interesting. One thing I liked about this anime was the transformation that visibly takes place within some of the characters. A good few undergo some really good development, and not just the hero. While I do think the characters could have developed more if they'd been given 24-episodes for this anime instead of 12, I can't really complain in this regard.

I think my biggest issue with this anime is the same issue that I have with every anime of its genre: the romance. If there is one thing that I could never stand about anime like this, it's that the romance is alway, always, ALWAYS completely inconclusive. It would be like if you're playing a galge and you hit all of the flags for your current conquest, only for nothing to happen. You watch the hero and heroine dance around each other for 12-episodes, and then at the very end when it looks like something is going to happen, they get interrupted and nothing happens. Everything goes back to the way it was and that chance for a heartfelt confession and kissing scene is gone forever, never to return. It's the one thing about anime like this that really pisses me off.

Having said all of that, this anime gets a 7/10 rating for its interesting use of over used tropes and the way it tackles certain real-life issues. If you have the time, I'd dive this anime a watch. My only suggestion is that you watch it subbed and not dubbed. The dubs for this anime aren't very good.

Devil Ninja, Chapter 13

Guest: I don't if you can read my mind because when I first read the name Cao Cao in light novel I also thought about Cow Cow, that was cool. I am glad to see that you decided to give original dxd characters develop because there are many stories that have Naruto come and fuck everyone up while leaving out the original characters. I also think that Naruto should have kind of power from dxd because it will be more interesting how combines his original powers with the new ones. Somethink dragonic(Great Red and Ophis combined body with Kurama resealed into it) or a sacred gear maybe. And it would also good if he had the Hiraishin.

I also don't know if you took in consideration that if Kurama has become the Juubi then he should have Rinne-Sharingan as well as mokuton, all elements and yonbi's and gobi's lava and boil releases. So I think Kurama at least should have had Rinne-Saringan with slitted pupils instead of his usual ones when he met Naruto the first time. But you can add that when they synchronize. But Naruto shouldn't just enter that mode be able to use all that powers because that would be just plain stupid. He should be able to use the kekkei genkais that he is receives from Kurama without the mode but he shouldn't be a master of them.
And after the reason I reviewed I will just say thank you so that you don't think I'm doing this only because I want to see all this in your fic(and you would be right, but you have to admit that all that would be just plain badass). So:
THANK YOU FOR THE GOOD WORK KEEP IT UP.

Answer: Just because Kurama is the new Juubi necessarily mean he has the Rinnegan or any kind of doujutsu. The Juubi's were a mutation from Kaguya. All Kurama did was absorb the chakra of the other bijuu, so he didn't gain any special abilities, just a massive boost in power. Think of it as him gaining nothing more than the raw, undiluted chakra of the other eight Bijuu. He'll be able to use the powers of the other Bijuu, but he doesn't have any of Kaguya's power, which includes the Rinnegan, Sharingan and Byakugan.

The Slumbering Dragon: Although the chapter was good, I think you might need to get your facts straight. Sirzechs Lucifer, while indeed powerful, is definitely not so insanely strong that he outclasses all the four Maou combined. That just sounds ridiculous. Truth be told, Sirzechs is not even close to the top ten most powerful being in the universe. But, it is indeed true that Sirzechs is more powerful than the previous Lucifer in his true form.

And I'm not the one who said that. It was stated by the author of the series in both the light novel and the afterword.

Answer: The information I used on Sirzechs Lucifer came from the wiki, which stated that he was considered one of the top ten most powerful entities in the world. However, regardless of whether that information is wrong, it doesn't change that Sirzechs is a powerful devil. Here, this is the information that I was going on:

  • In Funimation's subtitles, Sirzechs' name is erroneously misspelled as Sir Zechs.
  • Sirzechs' name is derived from the names of two characters from the Gundam TV series, Char Aznable of Mobile Suit Gundanm 0079 and Zechs Merquise of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.
  • Sirzechs claimed in Volume 6 that he once dreamed of being a musician, which was fulfilled when he composed the Oppai Dragon song to deactivate Issei's Juggernaut Drive.
  • Sirzechs loves to play the role of "Satan Red" with the "Maou Squadron".
  • Sirzechs is one of the two known Devils to be placed among the ranks of the Top 10 "Strongest Beings in the World", along with Ajuka Beelzebub.
  • Sirzechs is the only person among the devils who was able to make a sacred creature into his servant.
  • Sirzechs is over one hundred years old, having reincarnated Souji Okita as his Knight in the late 1800s.
Aetemus: First of all, Rias threatening the church's exorcists makes no sense. Yes, Heaven may have taken horrible losses during the Great War - but they supposedly have one advantage that nobody else does - GOD - the creator of Heaven - the same one who created the Sacred Gear system, he who was unmatched by ANY single opponent throughout the war, and who, as far as Rias knows, is still alive. As long as he lives, Heaven will never run short of miracles to offer.

I can't speak for the other readers here, but I've read at least a dozen tired rehashes of the Kokabiel arc - and they all suck. Horribly. I was hoping that this story would be different - but nope, instead we do not even have a nerfed Naruto around, let alone one at full power.

Making excuses about Minato Arisato and a Demon Among Devils does not do a writer of your caliber any credit. You've read that fic, so I doubt I need to remind you that its entire storyline was because of Minato deciding to help Issei, someone with whom he only had a casual friendship, rather than 'staying out of other people's affairs'. This theme continues throughout the story - when he crushes Riser and Kokabiel - when he saves the peace conference from derailment - when he single-handedly helps Akeno to come to peace with her past, * completely of his own accord *. Compared to Minato, who can literally summon Gods to fight for him, Naruto is a very veerrrryyy small fish. Finally, I'd like to point out that even if Naruto is stronger than anyone else from Rias's group, he's still in a strife-torn universe full of the likes of the Old Satan and Hero factions, Sammael, Rizviem etc. etc. He's not gonna be able to win against all of them alone, even with Kurama's help. There are more than enough villians and enough trouble and hardship ahead to allow for serious character development, without any one character completely overshadowing all others.

Naruto seems to assume that he can escape whenever he pleases. I don't know if he still has the Hiraishin, but assuming he doesn't, does he honestly believe that he can get past whatever safeguards the Hero faction have put up? Or that he can escape from the mastermind behind all of this? Logically, whoever commands people like Arthur and Kuroka is going to be a lot stronger and far more dangerous than anything he's faced so far in this world. At his full power, it wouldn't have been a problem, but while nerfed, it certainly is. Of course, he could get a suitable power-up from Kurama in the nick of time (just like with Riser), but there's only so many times you can use that before it starts becoming really cheap.

Finally, with Naruto's fanatical devotion to his 'precious people', I don't frankly see him cooling his heels in a cell for a prolonged period of time while his aforementioned precious people keep worrying about him.

Answer: You and I will have to agree to disagree here. Even if they have God on their side, the fact is that the Church suffered catastrophically during the war. This fact is proven by how little power the church seems to have, how more angels fell after the war, how exorcists like Freed have been led astray, and how people like Asia have been banished despite their intense devotion toward God.

Considering this arc has only just started, I had hoped you wouldn't write me off yet. This is the beginning, the first few chapters of this arc. You don't know what I have planned, so please try showing a little more faith. Or is that too much to ask for? Do you have so little doubt about my ability as a writer that you'd think I don't plan on diverging from canon? If so, then why are you still reading this?

True, but Minato also doesn't help UNLESS HE IS ASKED. That is the key difference between him and Naruto. Naruto will help out anyone regardless of whether they ask or not because that's just how he is. In the beginning, Minato didn't help until someone asked for it, and the few times he did help, it was minimal at best. Naruto is the type who puts one-hundred percent into everything he does, which means that, unlike Minato who will only help someone help themselves, Naruto will try carrying everyone's burdens for them. And as for your mentioning of Minato helping Akeno of his own accord, that doesn't happen until much later in the story, chapter 17 or 18, I think.

Of course Naruto seems assured. He's Naruto Uzumaki. You know, that kid who was so confident throughout most of the canon that he proclaimed to everyone who would listen that he was going to become Hokage? That Naruto. Confidence is one of the few things Naruto has never lacked. Why would that be any different now?

Oh? So you're saying that Naruto is so lacking in faith about the strength of Rias and the others that he can't cool his jets and think logically? You're going under the assumption that Naruto is someone who doesn't trust in the strength of his comrades. That's wrong. Naruto has complete faith in his friends, in their ability to deal with whatever's thrown at them without his help. You're entire comment contradicts the fundamental core of what makes the person Naruto Uzumaki, his faith in his friends and the bond they share. He knows they'll be just fine without him, which is why he's willing to sit around gathering intel on potential enemies before they can become a serious threat to his friends.

Perseus: you know the church is not really the weakest faction right gainst devils they have an advantage that is almost unfair and rias doesnt know of god's death yet she is making threats, this is the same god that sealed 666, created the sacred gear system, sealed albion and draig, and in his weakened state was able to go out with the four satans

Answer: Yes they are. They may have an advantage against devils due to their holy powers, but they also took a beating during the war, which is why they've been on the decline. Anyone with a set of eyes can see that. Even IF Rias does not know of God's death, she can still see how much the church has suffered. The fact that miracles have been happening far less, the fact that people like Asia are being excommunicated... Rias is intelligent enough to know that SOMETHING is wrong, even if she doesn't know what. Besides, in that instance Rias was at a huge advantage. There were only two exorcists and they were surrounded by not just her entire peerage, but also Sona and her peerage. Xenovia and Irina are in the middle of enemy territory. They were at the disadvantage in that confrontation.

The Ambitions of Oda Nobuna

The Ambitions of Oda Nobuna is an anime that I think could have been really good, but didn't quite manage to reach the zenith of what it could have been. It's not necessarily a bad anime, or even one that's not enjoyable, however. It has its ups and downs, its good points and bad points. The problem is that I just don't believe it was as good as it could have been.

Before getting into the bad, I believe we should start with what's good. The storyline for this anime is actually pretty interesting. It's about a young man who travels back in time to when Oda Nobunaga, a powerful warlord, fought to unify Japan during the Sengoku period--or so he thinks. In truth, the past he has traveled to is far different than the one he played in his historical video games. Instead of meeting the famous warlord who became known as one of the most brutal figures in Japanese history, the person he meets is a woman named Oda Nobuna, who has seemingly replaced the vicious daimyo. In fact, almost all of the legendary figures known in Japanese history have been replaced with either really beautiful women or really cute loli girls.

The gender-bending theme that this anime uses is interesting. While I've seen some anime where a character will swap genders, I've never seen it done to this degree. And while the concept of a young man going back in time to discover that every historical figure is a hot chick feels like a pervert's fantasy, there is a twisted sort of appeal the concept itself. I also like how the anime takes well-documented historical moments and makes them entertaining, allowing people to learn a bit more about Japan's history while also enjoying the anime.

What I did not like about the anime was the lack of true development. The problem with this anime isn't the story, but its characters, and how they are not developed properly. The main character, in particular, doesn't really grow all that much, and has this bad habit of treating everything like it was a game. Perhaps if the anime had a full 24-episodes, they would have been able to flesh out the characters a bit more, making them feel more like people and not cardboard cutouts of various archetypes, but without those extra episodes, the characters of this anime are easily placed into archetypes and don't seem to grow much beyond their trope.

Like most anime, I do enjoy the art style, and I feel this one is a little better than some of the others. It's nothing too fancy, and certainly won't hold up to some of the better anime out there like Cowboy Bebop, Code Geass, and Gurren Lagann, which all have very unique and art styles, but the characters all look unique and intriguing. I am particularly fascinated by the various outfits each character wears. While their personalities leave a lot to be desired, their distinct clothing differentiates them quite well.

In an overall rating, I would give this anime a 6/10. It's not the best, but it's not the worst either. It's one of those anime that are somewhere in the middle; good to watch once or twice, but eventually one that fades into anonymity. If you're into the Perverted Hero trope who has a harem of Beautiful Archetypes, then you'll probably enjoy this anime.
