Madan no Ou to Vanadis

Madan no Ou to Vanadis is an anime that honestly surprised me. I remember watching the first episode and thinking "how boring" and then telling myself that it wasn't worth my time to watch. Well, surprisingly enough, I ended up watching the second episode when I found myself out of other anime to watch. I did it mostly out of boredom. The second episode wasn't that good either. Still kinda boring, still kinda dull. It was the third episode that made me start paying more attention.

Now, I should first inform everyone that Madan no Ou to Vanadis is not the best anime out there. It honestly doesn't even rank in my top 20, but it's still a pretty decent anime if you want something that's entertaining and will kill time.

The first thing you should know about this show is that it's very much a harem/ecchi with a combination of fantasy/adventure. This anime's greatest asset is most definitely it's woman. All of the females in Madan no Ou to Vanadis are either incredibly cute or extraordinarily beautiful. Most of the women in this anime are females with a powerful position known as War Maidens, which I guess is like a midievil magical girl.

No, not that kind of magical girl.

Yeah, that kind of magical girl. There basically these really beautiful women who've been accepted by a powerful magic weapon known as a Dragon Gear. If it sounds familiar that's because it is. The concept sounds a lot like the Sacred Gear of High School DxD. Still, I'm not sure if the idea was taken from every perverts favorite anime or not, but the similarity in name is uncanny.

In any case, all of women are beautifully drawn. While the art-style itself and backgrounds are lovely, it's their female characters where this anime really shines. Which makes since, as this is a harem/ecchi.

And speaking of the characters, one of the things I feel should be noted is that they're not what I would call original. They're not bland or uninteresting or anything bad like that, fortunately. They just don't bring anything new to the table. When I look at these characters, I can usually think of at least several other anime characters who can replace them. In other words, they're interchangeable. This can be both a good thing and a bad thing depending on how you look at it. On the one hand, all of the characters will feel familiar to you. On the other, they're personalities lack the originality to really break the mold.

All in all, I think this is an interesting enough anime that anyone who enjoys a combination of ecchi/fantasy/harem would probably like this, but if you're not a big fan of those series, you may not. Being a fan of all three of these genres, I give this anime a personal rating of 6.5/10.
